Prelude to a Kiss - Audition Info

Show Dates: April 23rd – May 10th, 2026

Please note: This show will be submitted to the South Island Zone Festival and as part of the competition, will have additional show dates between May 14th – 17th at Ladysmith Little Theatre. If chosen as the winner of the festival, the play will be performed at Theatre BC’s MainStage Festival from July 4th – July 7th, in Vernon. Participants should be available to perform on these dates.

Enamored lovers Peter and Rita immediately fall for each other, and on their wedding day, a mysterious old man insists on kissing the bride. While honeymooning, Peter gradually realizes that the woman by his side is not his wife. By some cruel twist of fate, the wedding day kiss caused Rita’s and the old man’s souls to change places. Peter must track down the old man and free his young love’s spirit that is trapped in an aging and diseased body before it’s too late.

PETE  …………….  A conservative and self-conscious employee of a Chicago publishing house, 27-35
RITA  ……………..  A liberal, seemingly free-spirited part-time bartender who wants to be a graphic designer, 25-35
OLD MAN ……….. An elderly gentleman though well-meaning, takes advantage his body swap with Rita, 80+
TAYLOR ………….  A sharp and witty friend of Peter’s who is interested and interesting, 27-35
MRS. BOYLE …… Ritas’s mother.  A caring and loyal mom who is the proverbial worrier but who still likes a good laugh. Mid 50-60’s
DR. BOYLE ……… Rita’s father.  A dentist and Korean Vet.  A good guy with a dry sense of humour. Mid 50-60’s
AUNT DORTHY … Rita’s aunt.  A gregarious and outspoken gal. Mid 50-60’s
UNCLE FRED …… Rita’s Uncle.  A cookie-cutter of Aunt Dorthy.  Mid 50-60’s.
LEAH …………….. OLD MAN’S daughter.  A loving and concerned family member.  35-45
MINISTER…….…. Presides over Peter’s wedding.  40+
